At press time, the Core Photography squad had “flashed” to a three-game lead over the second-place Brenden Financial Planning team in the Senior Softball Summer League. A month ago, those two teams were tied atop the standings with identical 9-5 records, but the Photographers, managed by Rick Oien, had won eight of their last ten games to take the lead. They sported a 17-7 record while Manager Ken Brenden’s Planners were at 14-10. Summer play continues through September 19.

The chase for the batting title looks like it’ll go down to the wire with Tom Bersano currently holding a slim four-point lead over Jon Hendrikse (.790 vs. .786). Other top-ten batters were Tom Stephens (.759), Tim Loeffler (.742), Mark McKinnon (.731), Rick Oien (.712), John Castro, Bobby Farmer, and Kim Whitney (all at .700) and Dean Messier (.698). Tom Kasunic had a big lead in the home run department with 27 versus 13 for Tom Bersano and Tom Stephens. Mark McKinnon (12) and Dean Messier (11) also were in double-digits. We’ll be starting our fall league in late October with an expected four teams playing in each of two divisions. We also have a fall recreational program on Mondays and Saturdays. All games are played at the Field of Dreams near the corner of Riggs and Price Roads. Check the website for additional info.

Question: When is it hottest down at the Field of Dreams?
