The Cotillion 2016-2017 season began with the Up Beat Fall Gala in the Oakwood Ballroom on October 8. New this season was the VIP Reception. We were excited that over 50 percent of the members attended. We have lots of plans to make this new feature of our events very special. This first event included an intimate low key instrumental performance on keyboard and sax by Chuck E. Baby – awesome; and the chef provided champagne and hors d’oeuvres. The evening was highlighted by the band music of Chuck E. Baby and the Allstars. This dance band has been voted the Best Band in Arizona and their performance affirmed this praise. Oakwood’s new banquet staff was tested by their first large sit down dinner service in their renovated Clubhouse.

The photo above captures Lyn and Keith Kenner, new members this season, as they enter the Ballroom. The volunteers did a great job setting up the ballroom with a fall theme. As a side note, Lyn is a musical professional and her band, the Lyn Jackson Ensemble, will be performing at our March 11 event later this season. You can find out more about Lyn on our website.

Our next event is the Moon Dance Soirée on November 5 in the Oakwood Ballroom. The VIP Reception begins at 5:45 p.m. Bob Messinger will be providing the instrumental background music for the reception. There will be champagne and hors d’oeuvres served by the Country Club staff. Our band music will be provided by the Messingers. The Messingers have played for us several times. This Chicago style band led by Bob Messinger has great vocals! This will be a formal dinner dance. Come early and enjoy the company and atmosphere. Members and guests are welcome.

Robert Henningsen (Bobby), our new executive chef, has promised to make this meal one to remember. He is planning to serve his hors d’oeuvre specialties at the VIP Reception. His dinner menu includes a pan seared chicken breast with an asiago and sage cream sauce and an herb encrusted pork loin with a cranberry jus. The chef’s featured dessert is apple pie!

The group dance lesson for the upcoming dinner dance is scheduled for Thursday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom. Fred Astaire will be providing instructors for the waltz. Members and guests are welcome.
