The afternoon of Dec. 18 saw more than 50 homeowner volunteers gather at the Cottonwood Golf Course for the first of what is planned to be a monthly event. With the assistance of the Cottonwood Golf Maintenance staff, the volunteers spent the afternoon filling fairway divots with a sand and grass seed mixture. The volunteers were divided into six groups. Each group was assigned three holes to work on. The groups spread out on a fairway and walked from tee to green and tried to identify and fill all the divots they found. Also, each group had one member work on the green to repair ball marks. Scott Anderson demonstrated the proper procedure to repair the ball marks and provided the volunteers with a special grass seed mixture to be used on the greens.

After finishing their assigned holes, the volunteers regrouped at the Cottonwood Golf Course Pro Shop for refreshments. Also, each group shared any issues that arose during their time on the course. This critique of the event was used to improve the next event, which was on Jan. 22.

Any homeowner who wishes to be part of the next Golf Maintenance Day can find the sign-up sheet at the Cottonwood Pro Shop. Most volunteers expressed, “The course is in such great shape. Let’s keep it that way.”
