Each Thursday, the 18-hole women golfers descend on the Pro Shop for league play, and each week we are greeted by Travis Butler. Travis has been an assistant pro at Cottonwood for seven years and inherited the Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association (CLGA) responsibility at that time. He commented that what he likes most about the job is working with the ladies. Travis sets up weekly pairings, checks the women in, prepares scorecards, collects the money for the birdie pot, collects the scorecards, and verifies them with Golf Genius. Overall, he does everything possible to ensure we get on the course on time and enjoy the round. When it’s over, Travis is ready for the Lady Niners League and does all he can for them also.
The Niners hosted a scramble with CLGA on Feb. 19, followed by a Taco Patio Party. Members from both leagues participated in a fun round of golf and enjoyed visiting afterwards.
Wheat Ridge, Colo., is Travis’ hometown. He moved to Arizona in 2013 to attend the Golf Academy of Arizona in Chandler. His job entails far more than CLGA. Travis is a teaching pro, regularly giving lessons and holding clinics. He also assists in special events and tutors golfers on the use of Jonas and Golf Genius. Not often enough do we thank Travis for all his efforts and a job well done. Travis plays a key role in ensuring our season is successful.
