January has been a challenge due to weather, which forced the course to be closed on Jan. 11. The State Medallion Tournament was held at the Oakwood golf course on Jan. 12. Our members Sue Utzinger and Jill Brindley took third place in the first flight, and Minna Rasmussen and Cheryl Kopacz took first place in the second flight.

On Jan. 4 we played our first qualifying round for the State Medallion. First flight winners, in order, were Kathy Iverson, Joann Johnson, Rachelle Wilson, and Tammy Knight. Second flight winners were Ann Thomas, Cindy Fulton, Beth Johnson, and Julia Collier.

A step-aside scramble was played on Jan. 18 with three foursomes in the winner’s circle. This play day was also a time to dress in our glam and bling for an Oscar Party in the Saguaro Room where we enjoyed a buffet of light snacks and played some games.

The final Thursday play in January was a qualifying round for the Club Championship. Coming in first was Laura Carothers, second was Patsy Lawless, third was Pat Tjosvold, and fourth was Susan Utzinger.
