More than nine of every 10 calls received daily, averaged by the Sun Lakes Fire Department, are for medical emergencies. Totaling 3,500 calls annually, only about 150 responses are for fires. Currently, the Fire Department is offering a medical flash drive program to improve the efficiency of medical care received by patients.

Chosen to benefit from this year’s Cottonwood Lady Niners’ Member-Guest Tournament March 10, the local Fire Department will receive all proceeds. Chairing the event is Dixie McQuaid who urges lady golfers to sign up for the fun event. There will be a luncheon, nine holes of golf, silent auction and door prizes, all for $25.

The Sun Lakes Fire District was formed in July 1975 by community residents with the help of developer E. J. Robson. It was an all-volunteer organization until 1987. Today, there are two stations, two fire engines staffed with five personnel and two ambulances staffed with 48 emergency response personnel, 24/7, serving 6.75 square miles, including areas adjacent to Sun Lakes.
