Our annual Mixed Doubles Tournament that ran from February 15-20 was a huge success. There were many tight matches and when it was all over after six days of serious playing, the big winners were as follows:

First Place (Red Division): Dave Cain and Denise Devereaus

First Place (Green Division): Wayne Mangold and Kay Getelman

First Place (Blue Division): John Edwards and Christy Thomas

First Place (Black Division ): Dick Kane and Dian Bromley

On February 18 President Adriana Michael invited and introduced 14 past CTC Presidents as distinguished guests at the February Dinner meeting. This was the first time past presidents came together as honored guests at one of our dinners.

She thanked them for spearheading this important club in the community. Several of the past presidents got up and shared their highlights during their presidency.

Also at this meeting the Slate of Officers for 2015/2016 was approved by acclamation: President Hal Davis, Vice President Susan Aparicio, Treasurer Bill Widmaier, Secretary Kay Strauman and Tournament Director Enie Soczka.

Our tournament directors reported the result of two of our resent one-day socials. February 28 with Trilogy turned out in our favor winning 40 to 21 despite the less than ideal weather and they wish to thank those players who stepped in as subs at the last minute. The results of the March 7 social at SLCC were CW 16, SLCC 28.

Everyone had a great time and the weather couldn’t have been more pleasant.

One of our last favorite socials will mark the final end of the season. The East/West two day tournament will be in progress on March 13 as this article goes to print. On March 21 we will all join together for a final farewell with our yearly picnic at Sisk Park.

Tip of the month:

Many players have issues with an inconsistent service toss. To improve your service, stop both your arms and hands completely before tossing the ball. This will help you to release the ball from the same spot every time you serve doing this will minimize an errant toss that causes the ball to sail into different contact positions (per Bob Pivec, CTC coach).
