November is upon us again and the Cottonwood Tennis Club is revving its engines to begin another season of blistering forehands, laser-accurate lobs and just plain tennis fun. On October 26, Dave and Sherri Butler, hosts of the Kickoff Dinner, welcomed back returning members at the Palo Verde Dining Room where everyone enjoyed a Mexican buffet while they renewed friendships from last season. Hard on the heels of this, October 31 saw the first of several scheduled social competitions between players from Cottonwood, Sun Lakes SLCC and SunBird and a chance to discover if tennis skills had survived the off season.
Now, it’s time for the premium event that has launched each new season for the past 31 years – the Bradshaw Tournament. The Bradshaw Tournament, named to honor Dr. Ken Bradshaw, the first President of the Cottonwood Tennis Club, is hosted annually by the Cottonwood Tennis Club but is open to all Sun Lakes, SunBird and Springfield residents. It attracts the best athletes in the community, local sponsors, and a horde of enthusiastic spectators. So, for a week of action-packed entertainment, join the community from November 8-14 at the Cottonwood courts. Bring your sun block and get ready to cheer on your favorite players.
And don’t forget that on November 21 Leisure World will be visiting the Cottonwood courts for a full day of tennis and refreshments. A reminder to all Cottonwood Tennis members: make sure you sign up for this fun event.
