The Gila Butte Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) assisted with a pizza party hosted by the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) at the U.S. Veterans Home. The chapter partners with the JWV on various activities as part of the DAR Service to Veterans Initiative.
Chapter members also participated in the chapter’s conservation project, Maricopa County’s Adopt-a-Road program, by picking up trash along Dobson Road between Riggs Road and Hunt Highway.
A recent community service project for the chapter was sewing fidget pillows. The project coordinator, Barb Brandt, reported, “The Gila Butte Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution created 128 handheld, heart-shaped fidgets to be distributed by Successful Aging Arizona. Each fidget heart was sewn from fabrics with interesting textures like flannel, corduroy, and plush. Embellishment with trims such as buttons and beads will provide added tactile interest. Twelve DAR members participated in this community service project, spending over 60 volunteer hours! Successful Aging Arizona provides aging and dementia support to individuals and families in Sun Lakes and the surrounding area. It will be hosting a memory care conference in Sun Lakes this spring.”
Anyone interested in joining DAR should contact Ruth at [email protected]. The chapter can provide assistance with lineage research to prospective members if needed.
