December at the Ed Robson Library

Please join us for the following programs in December!

Tuesday, December 4, at 1:00 p.m.: The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction*

In 1904, a group of nuns brought 40 young children from New York to Arizona for adoption by pre-arranged “Spanish” parents. Because of a dispute with the arrangement, this little-known incident went all the way to the Supreme Court. Come hear the whole story!

Wednesday, December 5, at 1:00 p.m.: Have a Swingin’ Big Band Christmas

The big bands of the ‘30s and ‘40s recorded few holiday-themed songs; however, much of what they did produce was exceptional. Music historian Erik Larson shares some original recordings of these rare gems. Limit 50. Registration required. Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Friends of the Library.

Thursday, December 6, at 1:00 p.m.: Xeriscape for Your Arizona Yard*

Learn how to landscape for our desert environment. This class will provide the information you need to create a beautiful landscape that not only thrives, but also needs less water to do so.

Fridays, December 7, 14, 21 and 28, at 10:00 a.m.: Turn Your Memories into Memoirs, Part 2

In this advanced version of Turning Memories into Memoirs, focus will include polishing and organizing writing, learning what appeals to publishers and structuring a final manuscript. Registration is for all four sessions. Must register with library staff. Limit 15.

Tuesday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m.: Soul Music with Kenny G*

Bass guitarist and singer Kenny “G” Gilmore, a Detroit native, has backed such artists as The Spinners, The Temptations, Tiny Tim, McFadden and Whitehead, Aretha Franklin and George Benson, among others. Enjoy an hour of classic soul from a master performer! Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Friends of the Library.

*Seating begins 15 minutes before the program starts. Limit 100.
