Welcome back, beautiful November and Desert Artists Club () winter members. You have been missed. Our fall season is in bloom once again, and we are grateful for the beauty of our desert as it continues to present itself with magical blooms of color. Many of us are planting new bulbs, shrubs, and trees after this record heat saw many plants returning to earth to fertilize what will replace them. It is a joy to be outside participating in nature’s bounty, whether planting or taking a walk, and visually taking in the healing and inspiring gifts that abound. What inspires us often becomes an artistic expression on paper, canvas, or in a collage with layers of joy.
The Community Open House in Cottonwood on Oct. 5 found many people inquiring about the DAC. We met fun and inquisitive artists who were glad to find a club where they can come and be inspired and encouraged by others in a fun, non-judgmental space. No matter what level you are, from beginner to advanced, you are welcome to come, learn, share, observe, begin, or continue your personal journey of artistic expression. We will be grateful to become a part of it. That’s what creating together brings about—the unfolding treasure of gifts in each of us. As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded of this wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Desert Artists Club, a club that blesses and gives thanks for each of us who are participating in all that nature gives and the safe space where we can create and grow our talents.
The Desert Artists Club is open to residents who belong to any of the three HOAs of Sun Lakes: Sun Lakes Country Club, Cottonwood Palo Verde, and IronOaks. Our club is a place of inspiration and encouragement. We are a diverse group who work in many mediums, some of which are watercolor, oils, acrylics, colored pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, mixed media, and anything in between that you can create. Members bring their own supplies and work on an existing project. We are a casual club with no dues or regular business meetings. We have social events, and some members participate in Art at the Lakes each March. We meet year-round and welcome visitors to stop in and see what we are doing. By joining, you will have access to borrow art instruction books from our wonderful DAC collection and be on an email list for occasional notifications of extra events and club news. We have potluck social events and bring out favorite art pieces when we have Share Your Art. Sound like fun? It is.
If you wish further information, you may contact me at [email protected] or call me at 480-745-2198 and leave a message and I’ll return your call. Stop in sometime. Most questions can be answered by members during our weekly gatherings.
We meet each Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood. It is located off S. Robson Blvd. by the Golf Pro Shop and across the courtyard from the library. Stop in anytime.
