Yellow Rodge, an acrylic painting by member artist Duane Papke
Sue Sindelar
November brings many winter artists back to Sun Lakes; we look forward to sharing our art time together again. The weather now is really pleasant and it is a good opportunity to get outside and photograph some of our favorite sights and perhaps use our photos for inspiration to paint a fall palette. Migrating birds add sudden surprises when you least expect it. It is a time of gratitude and thanksgiving for nature’s beauty which surrounds us each and every day. Native American and Canadian inhabitants appreciated the bountiful lands long before we came, caring and respecting its beauty and resources. We too must care for this beautiful land of majestic places and remember them in our paintings and other artistic expressions. Duane’s Painting is of a Blackfoot Tribe member. They lived in areas of Alberta and Montana.
The Desert Artists Club (DAC) is a group of artists here in Sun Lakes who meet each Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood. We come together to be with other artists to work (play) on our own art projects. We bring our own supplies and work in our own medium, some of which are: acrylic, watercolor, oil, pen and ink, colored pencils and mixed media, just to name a few. We come together to share our love and appreciation of art and to be inspired by what others are creating. Any artist in the three HOA’s of Sun Lakes may join. We are a casual club with no dues or requirements. We have social times on occasion and Share Your Art experiences where we bring art we have created to display. It is always a fun time and our potluck treats are always yummy.
If you are new to Sun Lakes or wish to just come and see what we are all about, stop in any Tuesday and check out our group. The best time is between 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Feel free to ask questions or just see what we are creating. It just might be a good fit for you.
