Desert Artists Club Meets All Summer Long

Watercolor painting by DAC member Sylvia Sanchez. This painting is a reminder of all who are beautiful and good in our world.

Summer is in full swing, but the Desert Artists Club (DAC) still meets weekly for members to enjoy a time to create together in a cool and supportive environment. We enjoy each other’s company and friendships, which have evolved over many years. It is easy to stay indoors when it is hot but definitely worth the effort to come together for our art club time. Working together has many meanings. For some it is working for fun, but for those who work together as seasonal farm workers to support themselves, their families, and the world around them, it is a labor born of necessity and should be exalted and appreciated beyond measure. For they are truly the “salt of the earth,” the ones who provide for others as they provide for themselves. We can thank and bless them for their hard work each time we enjoy a green garden salad or fruit that tastes so delicious. We are so blessed.

The Desert Artists Club meets each Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. We meet in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood, which is across from the library near the Golf Pro Shop. We come together with other artists and work on our own art projects. We bring our own art supplies and work in our preferred mediums. Anyone who lives in one of the three HOAs of Sun Lakes is welcome to join. If you are new to Sun Lakes or have lived here for many years and haven’t availed yourself of this great opportunity, just stop in any Tuesday afternoon and see if this club fits your needs. Most members can answer any questions that you may have. We are a casual club with no regular meetings or dues. We do enjoy occasional social gatherings and artistic outings. We periodically have a “Share Your Art” day and bring work we have done for others to see. We have a lending library for members to use on an honor system. So, let’s beat the heat and come together and have some fun. You have nothing to lose—only joy to gain.
