Welcome to March 2026. It is a wonderful time to be here in the desert landscape. Nature inspires new growth as winter fades and spring pushes forward. We, too, experience a surge of new energy with our desire to grow our artistic talents.
Whether it is coming back to a hobby we have set aside for lots of reasons, trying a new medium of art, or just a surge of excitement when each Tuesday at 3 p.m. brings us together with other artists in our club and we can share our time, knowledge, friendship, and appreciation of each other’s talents. Creating with other artists is so inspiring. It brings out the best in each of us.
The Desert Artists Club (DAC) meets each Tuesday afternoon, year round, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood. We are a casual club with no dues or regular meetings. Artists work in many mediums: watercolor, oil, acrylic, pen and ink, colored pencils, and mixed media, to name a few. The DAC has been a club for over two decades, which is a testament to our mission and the members who participate. Any artist in the three HOAs of Sun Lakes may join. We have a library of instructional books members may borrow. We also have occasional social times and Share Your Art displays, which are fun and inspirational, too. Members are not required to attend weekly or stay the full three hours. We realize that we are on different schedules in our lives and have other obligations. So, come join us. You won’t be disappointed. Stop in and visit to see what we are all about. The best time is between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Art at the Lakes is coming up on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is held across from the tennis courts in Cottonwood. The firefighters will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers for a quick lunch. This is a fundraising event for our firefighters, so come to support them, too. There will be about 100 participants, and it is always fun.
If you are new to Sun Lakes or are thinking this might be a good club to join, you may contact me, Sue Sindelar, at sue.sindelar@gmail.com or call and leave a message at 602-717-8930.
