As we welcome fall, technically, here in the desert, we look back at summer with mixed feelings, remembering the record heat and glad that cooler weather will finally begin to greet us. We also hold sweet memories that have been captured perhaps by a photo and recreated in a watercolor painting of a grandchild enjoying her time at the beach. Whatever your memories are, we begin now to say farewell to summer and anticipate our coming seasons of beautiful, moderate weather that we Arizonans can experience with such delight and vigor.
We have been back in the newly renovated Ceramics Room in Cottonwood since August. Thanks to all the hard work of our Maintenance Department, we returned more quickly than anticipated. Attendance this summer was higher than usual, and what a joy that has been. We all appreciated being able to use the Arts & Crafts Room in SLCC during June and July, while the Ceramics Room was being remodeled. We had a social event in August to celebrate our space and each other, sharing not only treats, but our art as well. It is always a deliciously fun time.
The Desert Artists Club meets each Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 6 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood. We come together to be with other artists and work on our own art projects. We bring our own supplies and work in our own medium, some of which are oils, acrylics, charcoal, colored pencils, watercolors, and mixed media. We have artists of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Some members have taught art, and some take lessons online. But we all enjoy creating together. We are a casual club with no regular meetings and no dues. Artists (or wannabe artists) in any of the three HOAs of Sun Lakes may join. We have social times on occasion, and you will find some artists participating in the Art At The Lakes event each March.
So, if you are new to Sun Lakes or have thought of checking out our club, feel free to stop in and check us out. You may just find that it fits your needs. You may also contact me with questions at [email protected] or call and leave a message at 480-745-2198. I will return your call.
