July heat is here but artists in Sun Lakes come together to create with fellow members of the Desert Artists Club and take a break from feeling cooped up inside our homes. It is certainly a fun time and seeing other artists each week working on their chosen projects is inspiring for each of us. The DAC meets each Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. year round. We bring our own supplies and work in our own medium of choice, some of which are but not limited to: watercolor, oil, acrylic, colored pencils, pastels, mixed media, pen and ink, or charcoal. We meet in the Ceramics Room, (A-8) in the courtyard across from the library in Cottonwood. We are a casual club with no dues or regular meetings. We do have occasional pot-luck style social times where we also have ‘Share Your Art’, bringing in a few of our art pieces to display. Any artist living in the three HOA’s of Sun Lakes is eligible to join our club. We have beginning artists, members who have studied art and those who have taught art and those who are self taught. There is no judgement or competition; only artists who enjoy being with other creative people who share a love of art. If you ask for help or a suggestion there is always a willingness to share knowledge or experiences with others. We have a lending library with many instructional books and photos to inspire your creativity. We have no requirements for attendance; come when it works for you and your schedule. There is a core group of regular attendees and over the years friendships develop that become beautiful treasures.
If you are thinking of joining an art group, stop in on any Tuesday between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. (best time), and see what we are all about. You may find this is just what you need to get started or continue on your creative journey. You may also reach me, Sue Sindelar at: sue.sindelar@gmail.com with any questions.
