Desert Navy Update

Richard Volpe

As we move into the spring season, we can expect to have the opportunity to take advantage of some wonderful weather and the limited availability of many things that are all part of this typically busy season. Although things appear to be moving in the right direction regarding the long-awaited hope that the coronavirus is well under control, we are still seeing new cases being identified. Although on a somewhat reduced level, the problem is still a major medical issue for us all and something that we all have to contend with. It is nice to see that many people we do get to meet on a daily basis have already received their vaccine appointments, and things appear to be moving along rather smoothly in that area, following a slow start and confusion.

Based on this, our club commander has made the decision that, for the safety of all, it would be in the best interest of all to put off the holding of our scheduled monthly meetings until the end of the summer months, and hopefully be able to pick things up once again in September. The club, in normal times, meets on the third Friday of the month at 11 a.m., during the months of September through May. All Navy, Marine, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine veterans are always welcome.

There still is a group of members who do meet for lunch weekly at the local IHOP restaurant in Chandler. All are welcome, but if interested, it is suggested that you contact Rich as a courtesy for the restaurant, so that they can be prepared to provide adequate seating and staffing. If you have any questions, feel free to call Rich Volpe at 480-802-2532.
