Desert Threads Participates in Annual AQG Quilt Show

Deb Denton from Sierra Vista, a member of Mavericks Chapter, won Best of Show for her Pictorial quilt entry “Day into Night.” Awesome!

Eleven Desert Threads members exhibited quilts in Canyon of Colors Quilt Show held by Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) at the Mesa Convention Center on March 24 and 25. Two members won awards. Katy Clements’ “Crystal Lane” quilt won a third place ribbon in the Kit Quilt – Solo category for her excellent applique, piecing, and quilting. Pam Matassarin’s quilt won honorable mention in the Pictorial category for her creation of “Cotton Couture Cacti” quilt. Other quilts displayed were entered by members Terry Allen, Barb Brandt, Jody Edwards, Terry Findlay, Jackie Fife, Diana Jones, Blanca Sanchez, Maryellen Swanson, and Jill Eskew. Congratulations! It was an excellent show.

Desert Threads also had many volunteers who helped produce the show. Diana Jones and Maryellen Swanson spent many hours, while other members volunteered in a variety of capacities for two-hour stints. Each volunteer received a special pin marking the event. Desert Threads members are already planning quilts to enter next year.

At our April meeting, Peggy Morris gave a lecture about her technique for applique. She will be back in October to teach a workshop. Watch for future announcements. When there is extra space in a workshop, we invite non-members to join us. Fees are collected for workshops.

Diana Jones presents a workshop on Wednesday afternoon, May 3, about Triangles on a Roll. The May meeting will feature introduction of board members for July 2023 to June 2024. General meetings will not be held in June, July, and August. The next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 13. However, we will have informal get-togethers to sew, chat, and catch up with friends at the Oakwood Sewing Room. Dates are the first and second Wednesday afternoons, the first Saturday all day, the second Sunday all day, and the third Monday all day. For more information, send an email to [email protected] or [email protected]. Members are reminded that AQG has lectures and workshops scheduled. Check the dates and speakers at
