Desert Threads Quilters Enjoy Meetings

The Feb. 8 meeting provided fun for current and new members. Debra Kay showed her landscape art quilts and told us how she makes them and embellishes them. Debra will teach an Accordion Art Workshop March 29-31 at Sweet Pz in Gilbert. Everyone is welcome. Contact her at [email protected]. Her exceptional lecture raised questions and created enthusiasm for SAQA (Studio Arts Quilting Association), a national organization. Debra’s quilts appear in SAQA’s many shows around the country.

President Vicki Jones led a fun meeting. Jacki Fife won a prize for the winning vote of her design to use as a banner on web pages and documents. Cindy Templeton, programs chair, collected entries for the UFO Challenge this year. Get those Unfinished Objects (UFOs) finished. The program for our March 8 meeting features Barbara Jansen. She will have a class on March 20 about making landscape quilts. Diana Jones is leading a workshop on Wednesday, March 1, about sewing accurate one-quarter-inch seams and the Friendship Block for a Block Exchange.

Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG), of which Desert Threads is a chapter, holds the annual show for 2023 titled “Canyon of Colors” at the Mesa Convention Center, March 23-25. Over 300 amazing quilts will be on display, including all sizes and genres. About 10 members of Desert Threads submitted awesome quilts to the show. Everyone is invited to attend. Entry fees are $10 for members and $15 for non-members (new members can join at the show for next year, and membership starts immediately). Anyone can volunteer (non-members, too) and get a free pass to the show. Check out the AQG website www.ArizonaQuiltersGuild.org.
