Legislators are working on your behalf, so, of course, they want to know your opinion on proposed legislation. Come to the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) Jan. 13 meeting and learn about the Request to Speak system, the process that simplifies communicating with your elected leaders.
Jude Simons with Civic Engagement Beyond Voting will discuss the organization’s efforts to help people weigh in on upcoming legislation as the legislative session begins on Jan. 13. You’ll learn about the Request to Speak system and the online system you can also use to connect with your legislators.
Funding education will obviously be a topic at the legislative session, and it’s also a concern at the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) following the recent defeat of its school bond. Patti Serrano, elected to the CUSD Board in 2022, will be on hand to discuss the impact the defeat of the bond issue will have on the District’s plans for the coming year.
Rounding out the club’s first meeting of the year will be an update on what to expect in the upcoming legislative session by Arizona Senator Lauren Kuby. Kuby, a former Tempe City councilwoman, was elected to the Arizona Senate in LD 8 in the 2024 general election.
SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the Navajo Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club, at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N, Sun Lakes. We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee on the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery on West Queen Creek Road in Chandler.
We support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar, tax-deductible donation.
