Dolly Dressers has added “& More” to our name to reflect our expanded charity work for the benefit of underprivileged and homeless children. We refurbish and accessorize unbreakable dolls of all types, up to 18 inches (Barbie dolls are always popular). Other projects are Matchbox cars and carriers, children’s books, Beanie Babies, and Christmas and Easter bags.
We have had a busy spring and summer. We delivered 66 Easter bags — half to My Sister’s Place and the other half to A New Leaf. There were 55 items donated to five schools, 75 items to AZ Deaf and Blind Outreach, 75 to Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley, with more items ready to be delivered. Our summer project, headed by Patty Hutson, was to make over 400 Hero Capes for the Child Help Organization. We had several work parties to accomplish this goal, and we thank all for their donations of t-shirts, trims, decals, and countless hours of putting the capes together. The Hero celebration was held in early September, and the kids loved their capes!
Dolly Dressers & More is a Charity Special Interest Group of the Sew-N-Sews Club and although we receive support from the club for supplies that are not donated, we rely heavily on donations of used goods from our members and the community.
We are always in need of the following: dolls for little girls that are unbreakable up to 18 inches tall, flannel and fleece for doll blankets that are included with each doll, lace and other trims, yarn of all kinds, crochet cotton, gently-used children’s books, and Beanie Babies other than bears. We are finding small (about three-inch) baby bottles hard to find, and we try to include one with each baby doll. Other needed items are Matchbox cars and trucks and wrapped candy in preparation for our Christmas and Easter bags.
We thank all who have donated in the past and encourage future donations. We will find an appropriate place for any donated item that we cannot use.
