Dolly Dressers Still Need Sewers

Pictured are the Barney girls with some of our dolls. On the left is Lillian with dolls as we often find them, with no clothes and hair in a mess. On the right is Kaylee with finished dolls, almost ready for their new “Mommy.”

The Sun Lakes Dolly Dressers, a charity group within the Sun Lakes Sew-N-Sews, still needs more sewers to make small, doll-sized quilts and new clothing for 18-inch dolls and Barbie-size dolls, plus some items that will fit Build-A-Bears and Cabbage Patch dolls. The recent donations have been amazing! We are very grateful for each and every donation made, especially a large box of doll patterns and several books on making clothes for dolls. Be assured that all your donations are appreciated, and we thank each of you who left items for us in the Oakwood Sewing Room.

In April we will be meeting in the Oakwood Sewing Room on our regular day, the first Thursday of the month (April 7), at 1 p.m. For newbies, the Oakwood Sewing Room is in the far-right corner of the Community Craft area, and all residents (and friends) are welcome. Last month’s demonstration of doll hair care was a wonderful success, with several new ladies showing up to learn doll shampooing and curling. In April there will be a sewing demonstration of simple clothes for the 18-inch doll, like pants, shorts, bedtime clothes, dresses (shifts), skirts, and tops. If participants pre register with Johnie Scofield at [email protected], we will try to have patterns for you to take home and make clothes for us. If area sewers have scraps or “fat quarters” they can donate, please leave them in the Sewing Room marked “for Dolly Dressers,” and we will find and use them.

The Dolly Dressers will continue to meet each month throughout the summer, so please consider giving us a try. For more information, give Johnie a call at 602-510-7995.
