Dwaine and Marlene on their wedding day
Wow, where has the time gone? Seems like June 12, 1960, was just yesterday! They started dating in February 1954 by attending the “Sweetheart Dance” on Valentine’s Day. Once Dwaine had graduated from Doane College in Crete, Neb., they finally “tied the knot.” Dwaine went to work for Allstate Insurance and spent his entire career there. Marlene stayed home to raise their family and then went to work as a commercial insurance underwriter for American States Insurance. While there, she completed her B.A. degree from Columbia College. Retiring in 1996, they have been snowbirding for nearly 28 years. Their summer home is in the foothills southwest of Denver. They did extensive traveling all over the world and still enjoy that today. They attend the Sun Lakes United Church of Christ and sing in the choir.
Marlene was not ready to completely retire and was employed by The Charles Insurance Company for 23 years until COVID-19 sent her into permanent retirement. Marlene is a pinochle addict and plays cards five times a week. Dwaine’s love of softball kept him busy for many years in retirement.
They have one son, Brad (Sharon) and family that live in the area. Daughter Robin (Dave) lives in the Denver area, and Renee (Garry) is retired and lives in Van Buren, Ark. They have seven grandchildren and 16 great–grandchildren. They say, “We count our blessings every day!”
