Each year, the East Valley Marines, Detachment 1296, awards a scholarship to a graduating senior who is involved with the Marines JROTC program at Vista Grande High School in Casa Grande. The scholarship for $1000 is based on the recommendations of the JROTC instructors who evaluate grades, community involvement and military bearing.

This year, Wyatt Hanson is the recipient. He is the Cadet Battalion Commander and hopes to be able to attend one of our military academies. Commandant Dave Lott traveled with Earl Clark to Casa Grande in April to participate in this annual Marine Corps JROTC Awards Night.

Several of these high school students come to Sun Lakes each year to take part in the ceremonies at the November Marine Corps Birthday Ball. Our upcoming Birthday Ball is scheduled for November 10 this year. Ticket applications will be on our website in August at www.eastvalleymarines.com.
