East-West Canadian-American Social and Annual Picnic Celebrate CTC’s 2021-22 Season

American players prepare to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The colorful Can-Am social and the annual Sisk Park Picnic brought the Cottonwood Tennis Club’s competitive season to an end. There’s plenty of tennis still going on, but the tournaments are done for the 2021-22 season.

The Can-Am is a competition between players from Canada and players from America. It took place on March 12. Matches were played throughout the day with a break for lunch and the singing of the national anthems from each country. Canadian players wore red. The American players wore red, white, and blue. Since there were not as many Canadian players here this year, in some matches, Americans played for Canada. It was fun for players and spectators, and the food was delicious.

The annual CTC Sisk Park Picnic took place on March 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It included games, prizes, and music by Ron Petersen. Many volunteers helped set up tents, tables, and game sites, had fun participating, then cleaned up afterwards. Thanks to all those who helped make the end-of-the-competitive-season party a fun event.

The tennis continues, even though there are no more formal tournaments. There are daily play sessions and two leagues.

The sessions and ability levels are as follows:

Monday: Women’s organized

Tuesday: Men’s organized

Wednesday: Women’s organized and Women’s spring league (blue level)

Thursday: Men’s organized and Men’s Red/Green League

Friday: Mixed doubles

Any members who wish to sign up for organized, all you have to do is go to the bulletin board and sign up for the time you wish to play. Matches will be set up by the coordinator and posted two days prior to the date you wish to play.

After the schedule is posted, any free times left on the sheets can be used by anyone. Just sign up and come play.

So, even though it’s getting hotter, there are times when tennis is still possible. In the middle of the summer, some people play at night or at 6 or 7 in the morning. Belonging to Cottonwood Tennis Club is also a great place to make friends and play against other country clubs.
