Ann Marie McArthur, Executive Director/CEO since October, 2008, with About Care, will be the guest speaker at the Southeast Valley branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) on November 20, 2018, in the ballroom at Oakwood Country Club. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m., and the speaker and meeting begin at 7:00 p.m. Ms. McArthur’s presentation will be “Empowering Independent Living.”

About Care is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that delivers caring, compassionate support services using insured trained volunteers with special concern for elderly and physically-challenged residents of Chandler and Gilbert and recently expanded into Queen Creek. Similar to an aged care services perth, About Care’s free support services include transportation, shopping and errands, respite care, case management, friendly visits, reassurance phone calls and minor home repairs.

About Care provides opportunities for its volunteers to find meaning in helping others who need extra assistance. Volunteers focus on the abilities and strengths of the clients they serve and then do “little things with great love” to provide encouragement and support. Volunteers pick and choose the services they want that fit with their schedule. About Care’s goal is to encourage and enable independent living by assisting neighbors to continue living in their homes with self-respect and independence.

Ms. McArthur has lived in Chandler, Arizona, for more than 35 years and is honored to work and serve the Chandler, Gilbert and Queen Creek communities. Prior to working at About Care, Ms. McArthur retired from the State of Arizona where she worked for over 20 years. Ms. McArthur ran several state agencies, including the Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners for eight years. Immediately after working for the State of Arizona, Ms. McArthur did some consulting work for governmental agencies before determining that she wanted to give back to the community and was hired as the Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Arizona prior to working with About Care.

Ann Marie McArthur serves on Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits Leadership Council, Member of the Chandler Mayors Committee for the Aging, Member of the Network of Nonprofits Serving Seniors and Senior Wellness Community Coalition. Ms. McArthur recently served on the Chandler Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Since 1881, The American Association of University Women (AAUW) advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
