Winners of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s raffle at the annual Holiday Party
Dwight Flatt
Travel through the East Valley and you’ll undoubtedly notice the growth that’s occurring in both commercial and residential properties. If you’re concerned about whether we have the water, energy, and educational funding to handle this growth, then you should attend the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) Feb. 10 meeting.
Featured speakers at the meeting will include Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWD) board member Heather Macre who helped negotiate the recent drought contingency plans approved by the state and federal governments. Macre, a lawyer who was recently re-elected to another six-year term, will discuss water rights, laws, and other issues currently before the board.
Joining Macre at the podium will be Sandra Kennedy, recently elected to the SRP District Board member-at-large seat in the 2024 election. Kennedy, who previously served terms in both the Arizona House and Senate as well as the Arizona Corporation Commission, will address the increasing demand for energy in the Southeast Valley.
Rounding out the trio is Barb Mozdzen who was recently re-elected to and currently serves as president of the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) Board. Mozdzen will review adjustments being made to the school district budget due to lower enrollments and the ESA voucher program.
SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., Sun Lakes.
We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee on the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery on West Queen Creek Road in Chandler.
We support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar tax-deductible donation.
