The East Valley Photo Club (EVPC) has gotten off to a great start to its new season in a number of ways. We are happy to have welcomed quite a number of new members, as well as capturing many awards in the Arizona Camera Club Council’s (ACCC) Fall Roundup. ACCC is a federation of 15 camera clubs in Arizona that connects and supports camera clubs through news, competitions, honors, workshops, and events for photography enthusiasts. Roundups are photography competitions held in the spring and fall each year that include print and digital entries from all of the camera clubs in Arizona. The Fall Roundup competition featured entries from 15 clubs that make up the ACCC.

Seventeen EVPC members submitted a total of 157 entries to ACCC’s Roundup competition. In the Print Division our members scored two first place, two second place, one third place, five Honorable Mentions, and 25 Acceptance Awards. EVPC also won Club of the Year in the Print Division for the first time.

In the Projected Image Division, EVPC took a total of one first place, one third place, 11 Honorable Mentions, and 28 Acceptance Awards. First-place winners in the Print Division were members Jan Ballard (Creative) and Linda Davis (Monochrome). Second-place winners were members Raul Lopez (Nature) and Ken Duquaine (Cityscapes). Third-place winner was Jan Ballard (Color Open).

In the Projected Image Division, our first-place winner was Marcy Starnes (Creative). Third-place winner was Norma Walsh (Monochrome). And Nancy Thoma won the medal for Best Night Sky Image. Congratulations to all of our award-winning members!

Once again this season, EVPC will offer its Digital Fundamentals class series. As in past seasons, two separate courses will be offered: Introduction to Digital Photography is designed to equip novice photographers with skills to produce beautiful photos using the automatic features of digital cameras and smartphones. Mastering Your Technique is for experienced photographers striving for superior results by matching equipment and settings to the shooting environment and desired impact.

Each topic is presented in great detail with a wealth of examples. All students receive class notes prior to each session. Field shoots and studio workshops are included! Classes begin in January. The East Valley Photo Club welcomes members from any geographical area, and all of our meetings are open to visitors who may simply be interested in finding out about the club. No photographic experience is necessary, and our membership is comprised of all levels of skills ranging from casual photo snappers to seasoned photographers.

The East Valley Photo Club meets on the first and third Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club from October through April.
