As we continue our efforts to promote a well informed electorate, the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) Nov. 13 meeting will feature Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone; Francesca Martin, co-founder and deputy director of Keep AZ Blue Student Coalition; and Jennifer Pawlik, LD 13 AZ House Representative.

Paul Penzone has served as Maricopa County Sheriff since his election in 2016, having defeated Joe Arpaio. He was re-elected in 2020 for a second term. Sheriff Penzone will speak to the club about the many years of service he has provided to the Sun Lakes community, as well as other Maricopa County jurisdictions, and his observations as he leaves office in January of 2024.

The mission of Francesca Martin and her coalition is to register eligible students to vote and elect Democrats to offices up and down the ballot. Issues of importance to them are climate change, reproductive freedom, public education, and LGBTQ+ rights, to name a few.

Rep. Jennifer Pawlik will provide updates of the past Legislative session and the expected new session beginning January 2024.

SLDC encourages Democrats from Sun Lakes, SunBird, and surrounding areas to take advantage of this opportunity to meet candidates and your local state representatives, learn about the issues facing our community and state, and discover ways to get involved in shaping our political future.

SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes/SunBird area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25061 E. Sun Lakes Blvd N, Sun Lakes.

We also invite you to our First Friday Coffee at Kneaders on Friday, Nov. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. Kneaders is located at 1090 W. Queen Creek Road (Queen Creek and Alma School Roads) in Chandler.
