Yoga classes are held at the SunBird Golf Resort, Navajo Room, upper level.
Morning: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 7:40 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
Afternoon: Monday, 4 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. (special class); Tuesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.
Energy Yoga includes tapping and slapping the body to increase movement of blood and energy through the body. This slapping or tapping is an ancient Martial Arts method of getting the energy, QI, flowing through the body. We do this at the beginning of most classes. It is a good practice for you to do at home to wake up your body and spirit.
Functional Yoga means each pose is done to enhance a specific function of the body; to strengthen a muscle, to build the bones, to activate the myofascial tissue, to activate and restore joint movement, and thereby feel more energetic and move without pain. The feet are the foundation of the skeletal system, and the hips are the stabilizers. Correct posture is necessary to have the bones, muscles, and internal organs function in an optimal manner. The goal is not to be super flexible, but enough to enjoy life with activities you find fun. Some like dancing, playing golf, driving, hiking, and swimming, and others like tennis, Tai Chi, yoga, and walking the dog.
Monday afternoon class is a special class to give attention to problems of incontinence (the medical term is Cystocele) and prolapse. It is an open class for all women, but geared to those special issues. The ladies coming to this class in November and part of December have already experienced relief from these issues. If you wish to participate weekly, you will be asked to fill out an intake form. The cost is a donation. Most of the exercises are done standing or sitting in a chair. If you want chair yoga, come to this class. This is a good deal, so come.
Paullene is getting professional training in Prolapse and Incontinence from the Whole Woman Company founded by Christine Kent from Albuquerque, NM. www.wholewoman.com
Nidra Yoga is done on the second Tuesday for the morning class and more often for the afternoon class. This is a relaxing and meditative practice to relieve stress. Either lie down or relax in a chair. Listen to Paullene’s voice as your body relaxes and your mind is guided into a restful state of consciousness and awareness. This gives the cells a chance to recuperate while you are quieting the mind.
Remember: New participants are welcome. It’s easy to follow along, feeling the camaraderie of shared yoga energy. Bring a donation and a mat; mats are available in the room.
How do I sign up? Call or text Paullene Caraher at 602-292-7858 or email [email protected] or call or text Peggy Mottel at 480-440-9653.
