The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation is pleased to grant $1,000 to the annual Poppy Drive for the Jewish War Veterans (JWV). Twice a year, this organization raises funds to support and help local veterans in and around the Phoenix area who are homeless, hospitalized, in need of end-of-life treatment, or otherwise in need. The JWV Copper State Post 619 has more than 100 members who live in Sun Lakes and the East Valley. They are connected to the National Jewish War Veterans of the USA, who has recognized them as the best recruiting JWV in the country, as is evidenced by all their work done through the years in our Sun Lakes and East Valley communities.
All of our Sun Lakes Community Foundation members are volunteers, so all the proceeds from all Foundation events, such as the Christmas Gala, the annual Country Hoedown, sales of raffle tickets at TAD shows at Cottonwood, and private donations, help us to make these grants to our local clubs and organizations each year. Recently, we have been able to allocate grants to the Sun Lakes Arts & Crafts Association, Neighbors Who Care, the Sun Lakes Community Theatre, Sun Lakes Firefighters, the Agave Quilters and Sew-N-Sews, the Sun Lakes Chorale, and the Sun Lakes Chordaires, to name a few.
If you are part of a local Sun Lakes organization that needs funds to assist your activities, or if you are interested in helping support the Foundation financially or by joining as a Friend of the Foundation, please go online to learn more at our website www.slcommunityfoundation.com.
