Fun Lakers Club news

Carole Sinicki

Welcome to 2017! We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season. The Fun Lakers Club holiday dinner/dance, held in the San Tan Ballroom, was quite a success. We had our best turnout in several years and everyone enjoyed the festivities, meeting new and old friends and dancing the night away. Special thanks to the planning and decorating committees for all of their hard work.

Our first event of 2017 is the annual members meeting which will be held on January 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Poolside Café. This is a meet-and-greet evening, including free pizza, music and fun. It’s also an opportunity for current members to renew their memberships. Memberships may be renewed at the meeting or you may download the renewal form from our website and mail it directly to Margie Brandon, the FLC Treasurer. The cost for membership remains the same, $12 per person.

January is also the time for the Fun Lakers Club nominations committee to meet. The group will be preparing nominations for the April elections to the FLC Board of Directors. Positions include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer; as well as positions for activities, membership, publicity and hospitality. If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested, please email the name, position and reason for the nomination to [email protected].

On January 21, FLC is hosting a Western Night at the Poolside Saloon, also known as the Poolside Café in Oakwood. The evening will include dinner, live music, line dancing and two-step lessons with dance instructor Steve Cross. You may also have the opportunity to spend a little time in the “pokey,” so be sure to be on your best behavior. Western attire is encouraged. The flyer and registration form will be emailed to all members, so please save the date.

Mark Cordes presents his comedy routine, The Spouse Whisperer, at 7:00 p.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom on February 18. Other events on our schedule for 2017 include the FLC homecoming dinner/dance on March 26 and the annual progressive dinner on April 29. For additional information regarding all of FLC’s events, check us out at www.funlakers.org. We also send out newsletters, event flyers and registration forms by email to all FLC members on a regular basis, so watch your inbox and mark your calendars for all of these super FLC events.

Fun Lakers Club is all about having fun together. We always want our members to have a great time, try out new experiences and enjoy expanding friendships in and around the Sun Lakes area. If you haven’t joined or are not sure if it’s the right match for you, this could be the time to give it a try. We are happy to welcome nonmembers to our events as well; just visit our website for more information. As always, we look forward to seeing you at any and all of our club activities in 2017.
