The Fun Lakers Club held its annual meeting on January 6 for our new and current members. Our club continues to grow and expand, not only in membership but also in the variety of activities and events we now offer.

As part of our expansion, our club VP, Don Morgan, is working with the Sun Lakes Dance Party group to merge the two clubs into one. A steering committee met in January to discuss topics for the merger. Information regarding the finalization of the merger will be completed next month.

In February, FLC has three events planned. The first is a day trip to Tubac, AZ, for the world-renowned 59th annual Tubac Festival of the Arts on February 7. Fun Lakers will meet at the Cottonwood Grille at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast, before carpooling down to Tubac. The festival showcases the work of hundreds of visiting artists from around the country. Admission is free. Parking is $8.00.

Gangster Night – Dinner and Show will be on Saturday, February 17, in the Saguaro Room at Cottonwood CC. We are returning to the Roaring Twenties with an Italian buffet dinner, followed by a comedy show presented by the Improvables. The best-dressed Gangster or Flapper will be awarded $50.00 in cold, hard cash. So, don’t be a “wet blanket.” Put on your “glad rags” and come join the fun. Our final event in February is the monthly dance on February 22. FLC is co-hosting the dances with the Sun Lakes Dance Party. It will be held in the San Tan ballroom at the Cottonwood CC. Entertainment for the evening will be Thaddeus Rose. There will be a no-host bar and appetizer menu available, as well as door prizes. Dance lessons will begin at 6:30 p.m. with open dancing starting at 7:00 p.m. Cost at the door is $10.00. No early registration is required.

On March 24, FLC will hold its annual progressive dinner. It is a members-only event. Member hosts will open their homes for appetizers or dinner. All the food and drinks will be provided for the hosts’ homes. The evening will conclude with dessert and dancing at the Ironwood Clubhouse. This was such a smashing success last year. Plans are already in the works with so many members volunteering to be host homes. You don’t want to miss this event! The flyer and registration form will be sent out later this month. Remember: It’s members only, so be sure to check out our website and download the membership application. The cost for membership is $12.00 per person.
