The Sun Lakes Garden Club invites you to attend our upcoming meeting on July 21. Visitors are always welcome. The club meets all year, on the third Tuesday of the month, plus one field trip each month.
Recently, members toured the beautiful Cliff Douglas Estate garden and home in Mesa. Cliff is a past board member of the Desert Botanical Garden. The estate grounds are filled with statues, blown-glass sculptures, and home to a few six-foot-tall glass butterflies. Each field trip concludes with an optional group lunch.
The upcoming monthly meeting is July 21 at the Sun Lakes Chapel Center next door to the Sun Lakes All Faiths Community Church. Members and visitors gather at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and a generous refreshment buffet. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. and ends around 11:45 a.m.
The July speaker is Park Ranger John Bland, whose topic is “What is that Critter in my Backyard?” If you are new to the valley and know little about the Sonoran Desert and its natural inhabitants, this program is for you. Discover some of the common creatures that might call your yard their home and learn ways that you might coexist with them.
On July 28, the club is planning a Patriotic Potluck commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States. Everyone is encouraged to wear their red, white, and blue. Master Gardeners will answer members’ questions after a delicious buffet, surrounded by festive decorations.
Since the summer months are too hot to tour nurseries and gardens, the club field trips may include indoor plant shops, herb shops, museums, garden-art craft projects, and other indoor fun!
