I am the Varsity, JV, and freshman girls Tennis coach here at Basha High School. We were contacted by Jenny Browne, the racquet activities coordinator at IronOaks Fitness and Racquet Center in Sun Lakes, late last year. Jenny proposed that our players take part in a fun community event in which the talented women who represent IronOaks 55 plus and 65 plus USTA tennis teams would be paired with members of our high school teams in a round-robin doubles social. The event took place on President’s Day 2016 and was a great success. Everyone who participated in the event had such a wonderful time that we set in motion plans to get out on the courts together with greater regularity. The women of IronOaks and the young women of Basha are both in the midst of competitive spring seasons in their respective leagues, and we determined that we would benefit from arranging combined practice time. We will practice together, here at Basha High, on Monday, March 14 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. and we plan on arranging additional combined practices going forward. We think that our community at large would be interested in and inspired by the multi-generational relationships being fostered between IronOaks and Basha, as tennis serves as a common link bringing us together.

Jenny Browne and the local high school coaches will be working together to put together an actual tournament for the 2017 season. If you have any questions or would like to get involved in this event, please contact Jenny at [email protected].
