Golden Goalies – Accountability

Janice Cournoyer

Golden Goalies is a support group for those interested in attaining and maintaining a healthy weight. The “Goalies” do not judge; instead, we offer support, encouragement and praise. However, we do have to face the Piggy Pot weekly! Have you heard the term “Pay the Piper”? We at Goalies pay the Piggy Pot. If you’ve gained weight, you place your fine in the Piggy Pot. The fine varies by the amount of weight gain, from 15 cents to $1.00. If you forget your nametag, that’s 10 cents into the pot. If you’ve lost weight or maintained for the week, your name is entered into the drawing to win the money in the Piggy Pot. The amount in the pot most certainly won’t make you rich, but it’s just another small reward for having a good week and dropping some weight, even if it’s 1/10 of a pound!

Recently, it was discovered the Piggy Pot had a crack. He underwent a successful repair, spent a week in recovery and was able to return to work the following Saturday! All the Goalies were pleased, because we need that judgmental little pig to hold us accountable.

If you’re interested in a great support group that shares laughs and wisdom weekly, consider joining the Golden Goalies. Weigh-in is Saturday from 7:00 to 7:40 a.m. in Room A-8, near the Cottonwood Library. The meeting starts after weigh-in, and the group does meet year-round.
