Golden Goalies – motivation to lose weight

I just found that I am among those who survived the holiday season without gaining any weight. At Golden Goalies our practice is to weigh in the week before Thanksgiving and compare that weight with weight in early January. The goal, of course, is to not gain weight during the challenging season.

Of the 25 who weighed in on November 22, 10 gained zero weight by January 3. I think that’s pretty amazing and right now I’m typing with one hand so I can pat myself on the back with the other hand. And I should add that probably every one of those other 15 gained less than they otherwise would have. In fact, two gained a mere quarter of a pound. Knowing that the January weigh-in is important helped everyone resist some of the seasonal goodies. A few anyway.

Following that end-of-the-year contest, Sandra and I were each presented with another challenge which we call the mystery envelope contest. More motivation. Choosing to accept a mystery envelope goes hand in hand with committing to lose weight each week for the next four weeks. There is a monetary reward if we’re successful — albeit a small one. The real reward is weight loss. But not to count my chickens too early; I have been known to lose the envelope because of weight gain before the four weeks are up.

Losing weight naturally is never easy, especially when you compare it to the medical procedures that you can see over at places like where they can help you lose fat by freezing your fatty cells in a specific area. The point of this contest though is that we all want to lose weight and are surrounded by people who want that for us. They give us support and motivation to make the journey more successful. Stay tuned to learn the name of the biggest loser for the last six months. I know it won’t be me, but I will be very happy for that winner.
