Ready, Set, Walk! Join your fellow Sun Lakes neighbors on Sunday morning, Oct. 19, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. by participating in the First Annual Firefighters Food Fund Walk-a-Thon at Oakwood Country Club. It will be a fun-filled morning dedicated to showing our first responders how much we appreciate their professional and caring service to all of Sun Lakes. This fundraiser is sponsored by the Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation (GSLCF). All proceeds from the event will go to the Firefighters Food Fund, which will help offset their out-of-pocket food expenses throughout the year. Firefighters and EMTs will be on site and participating from beginning to end.
There is an option for everyone. You can register to walk 2 miles, 1 mile, or 1/2 mile. If you are unable to participate by walking or you are out of town or out of state, you can register as a Walker in Spirit. Just as there are options on the distance you want to walk, there are also options on the amount you can choose to donate:
First Responder: $20
Lieutenant: $40
Captain: $60
Fire Chief: $80
Community Hero: $100+
Remember all the times you supported fundraisers for your kids’ and grandkids’ activities? Now they can help you make this fundraiser even more successful by joining you in supporting the Firefighters Walk-a-Thon. Both online registration and paper registration will include easy directions on adding family and friends.
Registration opens Sept. 1. To register online, go to our GSLCF website at www.SLCommunityFoundation.com and follow the easy directions, or click on the QR code located on the posters or flyers that are available throughout our communities. Our online registration process includes easy directions for you to inform family and friends how to participate. Paper registration forms are available at the Administrative office in Cottonwood, the Administration desk at Sun Lakes Country Club, the Concierge desk at Robson Reserve, and the Concierge desk at Oakwood where you can fill out the form and send with a check to P.O. Box 12402, Chandler, AZ 85248. While paper registration is available, the preferred sign-up is through our website. Check-in will start at 8 a.m. where you will receive a wristband for breakfast, and the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. This is a fundraiser, so bring some money or your credit card for the 50/50 cash raffle. At the conclusion of the walk, breakfast will be served in the Oakwood ballroom, and the winning raffle tickets will be drawn. There will also be information regarding the Emergency Lockbox Program, the Vial of Life, and the Ambulance Membership Program. Additionally, there will be information on the Stay Off the Ladder Program sponsored by The Redeemed Team (realtors).
Let’s all join together on Oct. 19 to show our firefighters and EMTs how much they mean to our community.
