The Sun Lakes Hiking Club started off this season in full swing with a great kick-off luncheon at Oasis Park on Nov. 4. Over 75 new and existing members were in attendance. The food was great, and seeing everyone was better. Announcements were plentiful, and here are the most important dates to note:

Every Monday we hike at all skill levels: Mellow, Moderate, and Motivated. And this year we are again offering Moderate hikes on Wednesday. Wednesdays are a great time for Motivated and Moderate hikers to socialize together. Check the Meetup site for details on all the hikes by typing “Sun Lakes Hiking Club” into your web browser.

Dec. 2 at 3:30 p.m. is our next club meeting, held in the Saguaro Room in Cottonwood. A newly renovated room, I believe. Looking forward to seeing you there.

On Dec. 21 Marilyn and Dennis Harkins will be hosting a hike on the Oakwood walking paths, with a potluck following at their home in Oakwood.

On Jan. 22 the winter potluck social will be held at Poolside in Oakwood. Always a good time.

On March 6 to 9 the Special Hike is happening in Palm Springs, Calif. Never hiked there yet, but looking forward to it. Lots of planning has already gone into it by many people. It’s sure to be another great experience for the club. If you missed DeEtte Faith’s email on the details, drop her a note at [email protected] for a resend.

On March 31 the Spring Picnic will be held at Oasis Park. Fried chicken again? Let’s hope so.

Want to join our club? We are a friendly, inclusive group that welcomes all able-bodied hiking enthusiasts! Our club’s goal is to make group hiking fun, challenging, social, and safe.

Our club hikes formally from November through April and, as mentioned above, at three different intensity levels on Mondays, and we also offer a second weekly “Moderate” intensity level hike on Wednesdays. Type in “Sun Lakes Hiking Club” in your web browser to learn more about our club.

Hiking is one of the many rewarding activities you can do in our community. We look forward to hiking with you this season!
