John Concannon, Publicity
January is here and I for one am not ready for 2015. What the heck happened to 2014? But, time does not stop for any of us, so onward we go.
For those of you not present for the vote on the updated constitution (yes we have a constitution), it passed by unanimous vote. However, the blatant, flippant attitude that was expressed by the members present was a bit disconcerting. It seems to illustrate the general attitude of many of the IMGA members: sign in, show up, play and we are out of here. Thankfully there is a core of members who are willing to take the extra step to assure that the men’s club continues as an ongoing entity. By the time you read this article a new Board of Directors will have been voted into office. Again, our thanks go out not only to the 2014 board, but the 2015 board led by Bill Beltz.
Starting this year I will be doing a monthly IMGA Golfer of the Month. There are plenty of members with interesting backgrounds, unique careers, and/or unusual life experiences. I would like to kick off this feature with Barry Ediss, our outgoing President. This feature will show up as a separate article due to space limitations for individual articles.
I want to congratulate Dick Epperson on his hole-in-one on hole No. 13 during the December 10 men’s day play. This is the second hole-in-one that Dick has had, previously scoring an ace on the Oakwood course.
As you are aware, the redo of the Palms course is complete and Eddy Renio, Director of Golf, said it is quite an improvement, especially the sand traps which no longer resemble the surface of a parking lot. Eddie has invited the 40 plus Ironwood only members of IMGA to play a free nine holes on the Palms course on any weekend afternoon. Just contact the Oakwood Pro Shop and say you are an Ironwood member of IMGA and want to take advantage of Eddie’s offer.
Well, that wraps up another month and another year. May 2015 bring you all health and happiness throughout the year. And remember: As you slide down the banister of life in 2015, pray that all the splinters are pointing the other way.
