James Meagher
The Beatles sang about it, and most of the time we just “get by with it.” Sometimes we’re aware of it, and most of the time we aren’t. I’m talking about that critical aspect of our lives that we often take for granted—Help. Sometimes it comes to us out of the goodness of someone’s heart. Most of the time it just comes to us. Whether free or with cost, we are assisted in our lives everyday in so many essential ways by someone and lead our lives saying to ourselves and each other, “It’s just another day in paradise.” It is true, and we can’t deny it that, as The Beatles so memorably sang it, “We get by with a little help from our friends.” Maybe more accurately stated, we can’t get by without a little help from whomever. That is definitely true for me.
Readers of the Splash learn about Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank and the food and services provided there by the staff and volunteers. Together we donate and organize the food. We then distribute it to individuals, families, and schools. We have so many reasons to be grateful that we are both a provider and a receiver of the essential services that our community provides throughout the Valley.
All of the above portion of this column is a lead into its goal. That is to show the gratitude of the Reach Out Sun Lakes team to four of our outreach partners who more than doubled their historical average monthly donations of food and financial support to Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank during the past six months. They are Sun Lakes Country Club, the Democratic Clubs of both Sun Lakes and Chandler, and the Unity Church Community of Sun Lakes. Our deepest thank you from the Reach Out Sun Lakes team.
Please consider joining us in our goal to eliminate food insecurity here in the East Valley of the Phoenix metro area. Recent federal assistance cuts to direct service providers like Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank have caused severe cutbacks to their funding. If you don’t belong to one of our participating organizations, please consider becoming a supporter of our mission and call or text me, Jim Meagher, at 630-346-1966.
