An invitation from the Reiki Circle

Lois Valleau

There is a thriving Reiki community here in Sun Lakes and we’d love to have you visit us. For those not familiar with Reiki (ray key) perhaps I can clarify.

What is Reiki? Reiki is energy, that life force that is present in every living thing. We at the Circle use it to support the human healing process.

What is the process? The person preparing to receive Reiki lays down fully clothed on a massage table. Although everyone experiences Reiki differently, most people feel a deep sense of peace initially as the practitioners place their hands on the body. There are usually two to three giving the Reiki. If there is a certain area of concern, special attention is given there in the 20 minute session.

What are its benefits? In addition to a sense of peace and deep relaxation, other Reiki benefits are that it alleviates pain, accelerates healing, reduces stress, restores the body to balance, supports good health, and maintains a sense of calm and well- being.

May anyone participate? Anyone may come to the circle to receive Reiki and give if they wish. If they would like to be trained in Reiki, classes are available in Sun Lakes.

Where do we meet, and do you need to join? Every Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. we gather in the Cottonwood Courtyard, Room A-2. No need to join, no fee, just show up. Love offerings appreciated.

What else happens there? We have announcements, a guided meditation and Reiki.

What if I want to know more? Cottonwood Open House on October 8 from 9:00 a.m.-noon, San Tan Room. New Adventures in Learning, “Let Your Energy Flow,” October 10 at 10:00 a.m., NAILS classrooms.

If you want to take a class? Reiki I: learn to give Reiki to others and yourself; 12 hours, four attunements, hand placements, student notebook. Reiki II training available to those trained in Reiki I: teaches distance healing, three Reiki symbols to deepen the energy; 12 hours, one attunement, student notebook.

Reiki I offered: November 4-5, December 7-9, and January 20-21, 2017

Reiki II offered: February 15-17, 2017, March 10-11, 2017

An example of Reiki in a crisis: One morning at church I was sitting next to a couple I knew well when I noticed the man sitting between me and his wife had gone absolutely still. His face turned white and he appeared to be catatonic. He was unresponsive to his wife’s voice. I stood and put my hands on the back of his neck and forehead asking someone to call 911. It was only five minutes before the aid car arrived to find Bill with color in his face, chatting with everyone and seemingly returning to his former self. The EMTs could find nothing out of the ordinary with him but suggested he get further checked out at the hospital emergency room.
