Mid-October was the opening of the fall season for IronOaks Tennis Club (IOTC). More than 100 members from our IronOaks Tennis Club and from Trilogy, SunBird, Cottonwood, Sun Lakes Phase 1 and Robson Ranch participated for a day of fun tennis, social time and great food.
Play Directors Mike Davin and Dar Brasch had the draw prominently displayed, as well as published the week before, so everyone was ready for their matches. Tennis play ran from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., divided into four playing times. Breakfast and lunch were provided via event Food and Beverage Chair Claire Wilcox and her team with a great menu provided by Carol Mellinger. Delicious snacks were provided with lots of food throughout the morning.
As an added feature, Olena Buxton coordinated a tennis and golf clothes sale with gently-used items supplied by other club members. We thank all those who contributed, as it raised $445! This more than covered the food and beverage for the more than 100 attendees, so Doug Swanson, Treasurer of IOTC, is very pleased. It’s always a win when you can exchange unneeded outfits and freshen your wardrobe. Several hundred items exchanged hands.
Kudos to Pam Barker and Kwong Young for setups and facility coordination efforts. Mark your calendars for our next big social event on December 31. We will welcome in the new year with another community tennis event. Check out the club website at www.IronOaksTennis.net for updates. v
