IronOaks Awarded Vitalant IMPACT Award

Chuck Sloan, Ray Burbank, Michele Renahan, and Sheryl Hand

On Feb. 24 some homeowners who have donated blood a minimum of four times: Sheryl Hand, Ray Burbank, Chuck Sloan, and Michele Renahan, (director of communications), with Paula Ferguson (board secretary), attended the Vitalant Valentine for Life Award Luncheon. Michele Renahan and IronOaks were awarded the most prestigious and difficult award to earn, signifying outstanding leadership in blood drive coordination. This award is given to coordinators and organizations working above and beyond to encourage participation in their blood drives.

IronOaks’ dedication began in 2019, but really ramped up in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. Every month through 2021, the ballroom was dedicated to social distancing and blood donations. The IronOaks community monthly filled those appointments and gave selflessly. Since October of 2021, we have set up a recurring blood drive, typically the fourth Tuesday every other month. Consistency and plenty of notice of the drive are key to the success. Michele looks forward to another year working with our homeowners, building our donor base and celebrating saving lives with Vitalant.

Thank you to everyone who donates and gives the gift of life! If you are interested in donating and aren’t sure how to begin, contact Michele at 480-317-3620.
