On August 5, 2016, four members of the Casa Grande/Mission Royale Pool League drove to the IronOaks SLHOA3 Billiard Room to play four members of the IronOaks Breakers Pool League in a Round Robin Tournament. The IronOaks Breakers Pool League won the tournament by a score of 27 wins to 21 wins for the Mission Royale League. The tournament was originally to be eight players from each League, but due to the summer heat, both teams fielded four players each. Mission Royale lost this tournament, but they retain the I-10 traveling 8-Ball trophy that has been in play for over three years. When both teams can field eight players in the fall, the trophy will be in “play.”

In other league news, season four is complete. The winners were: Rack 1, 8-Ball: 1st Jerry “Slick” Vickery, 2nd Wayne Newman (who had a table run, his first in league competition), 3rd Bill “The Assassin” Lange; Rack 2, 8-Ball: 1st David “The Godfather” Mork (a perfect rack, no losses, his first in league competition), 2nd Brian “The Geek” Kretschman (a first time winner in the league), 3rd Randy “Coach” Bryan; Rack 1, 9-Ball: 1st Jerry “Slick” Vickery, 2nd Bill “The Assassin” Lange, 3rd Willie “The Wizard” Foster; Rack 2, 9-Ball: 1st Brian “The Geek” Kretschman, 2nd David “The Godfather” Mork. This last rack was originally scheduled with more players but several players removed themselves from the rack play, and the match between the two final members was decided by one game, 7/6. Each of the winners will be entered into the fifth annual league championships in 8 and 9-Ball, to be held in early November in the newly remodeled Billiard Room when the new tables, carpeting, lights, paint and other remodeling will be complete.

And, thanks to the more than 30 members of the SLHOA3 who came to the Beginner Nights which were held on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the months of June and July in the Billiards Room, and thanks to the 10 members of the league who taught at the events, and to the Ladies Billiard League for participating in the events. We held a successful series of events, and the league increased in membership with the addition of two new members and the Ladies League has gained interest also. The Breakers Pool League has now reached the milestone of 50 members. Plans are being finalized for the annual Bracket Release Party and there are plans for a season six Mini Tournament prior to the construction beginning. If you are an SLHOA3 member and would like more information about the league, please contact Will Foster, our Tournament Director and Board Member at [email protected]. Now, let’s play pool!
