July play dates: We will have our regular a.m. shotgun off the back nine for the following Wednesdays in July: 2, 9, 16 and 30. On Wednesday, July 23 (course closed) we will have an 8:30 a.m. breakfast at the Poolside Café at Oakwood. Members who are not playing golf in the summer but still in town are invited to join us. A sign-up sheet is on the indoor bulletin board. We will order off the menu.
Save the Date: We will do another Poolside Café breakfast after golf on August 20.
Well being: Now that our hot temperatures have arrived, the days are longer and the sun is stronger. The sun is most intense from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Our summer league play is earlier in the morning, but nevertheless, the sun is still shining over us. Recent features/articles in the news have been reminding us of the necessity of using sunscreen when participating in outdoor activities. The newer sunscreens are designed to block both UV-A and UV-B rays. Sunscreens’ effectiveness at blocking the sun’s rays is termed the sun protective factor (SPF). The higher the number, the more effective the sunscreen is at blocking the rays. Please, generously apply sunscreen before play.
If you play golf but are not involved with a league, this is the perfect time of the year to give our Ironwood Lady Niners a try. We are currently in our summer play which is casual golf, no competition, we just play to have fun and work on our game. We shotgun at 6:30 a.m. and gather for social time following golf. It would be a great way to ease into league play. For more information please contact Susan Schaeffer at 480-802-9852.
