The holidays are over, the lights are put away and now golfers are concentrating on their game. January saw a full month of activities to allow golfers to hone their skills. Because the month started off so cold, a new skill was needed… swinging a golf club with five layers of clothing on. But, warmer days have returned.
On January 5, the 2019 Member/Member two-man Select-A-Drive tournament was won by:
Flight 1: Mike Lorimer and Rich Sorenson with a score of 46
Flight 2: Bud Murray and Larry Guild also with a score of 46
Flight 3: Arnie Pinsley and Brad Buell with a score of 45
A highlight of the day was Gerald Kirby scoring a hole-in-one on #12. Congratulations to Gerald and all the winners.
On January 10 and 12, a Home and Home Tournament with Sun Lakes CC was won by Ron Keil, Larry Rix, Gene Finney and Bill Johnson with a score of 194.
On January 19, a low gross/low net contest was tied by two four-man teams with a score of 115. Those teams were comprised of Mike Lorimer, Rich Griffis, Gerald Kirby and Larry Chidester and the second team of Jack Hill, Wes Davis, Paul Jorgensen and Bill Davis. Good shootin’, guys.
On January 26 and 27, the 2019 PVMGA President’s Cup Tournament was played. The winner was Jim Wedeward with a score of 103, and the runner-up was C.W. Collins with a score of 106. Other flight winners included a three-way tie for Flight 1 at 122 between John Kane, Pat Conroy and John Almond. Flight 4 was won by Arnie Pinsley with a score of 113, followed closely by yours truly at 115.
All in all, it was a great month for golf with many more fun activities coming up in the months ahead. See you on the links.
