Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation Sisterhood will have its kick-off, in-person meeting on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m., in the Chapel House in Sun Lakes. The speaker will be Karolyn Benger, Rabbi Beyo’s wife, who is studying to become a rabbi. Although women have pursued studies to become rabbis since 1921, it was not until 1972 that a woman became the first formally ordained rabbi. Fifty years later, our speaker Karolyn Benger is embarking on a similar path. She currently serves on the Jewish Advisory Board for the Phoenix Police Department.
Other programs planned for future meetings include Jewish genetics, the Chandler Museum, and the Phoenix Art Museum. Sisterhood is also planning a fashion show/luncheon that will include gift baskets, restaurant gift cards, and a bake sale. We look forward to welcoming you to all of our gatherings.
