Sun Lakes United Methodist Church is happy to present interesting and informative programs for you to enjoy in July. All of the events are held in Lindsay Hall at 6:30 p.m. except for the musical evening which will be held in the Sanctuary.
July 1 – “Trails and Tales of the National Park Service through the Eyes of a Native American”
Barbara Sutteer is a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and was raised on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation in Utah. Barbara’s career included her position as superintendent of Little Bighorn National Monument in Montana where she secured Congressional authorization to establish an Indian Memorial. Come and hear more of the fascinating stories she has to tell about her years in the National Park Service.
July 8 – “The Rescue Story”
In August 1993 on an ordinary day, a small plane ran out of fuel on a flight over the Bering Sea and crash landed in icy waters. The fact that everyone on board survived may seem like a small miracle or maybe no miracle at all, just pilot skill. Come and listen to the rest of the story told by Dave Anderson, one of the survivors and discover how this mission trip to a small, remote village in far-eastern Russia turned into a far-reaching, ongoing blessing.
July 22 – “No Homeless Dogs and Cats: The Story of the Arizona Animal Welfare League”
The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) was led in 1971 by Amanda Blake, best known as “Miss Kitty” on the TV program Gunsmoke. Come and hear about how this organization not only adopts companion animals into loving homes, but also holds a leadership position in the community in education and animal welfare issues. A few animals will be brought in that are ready for adoption, along with a shelter wish list for those looking for ways to help.
July 29 – “An Evening of Beautiful Music – Irving Berlin and more”
TNT’s evening of beautiful music will feature the music of Irving Berlin including music from My Fair Lady, songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and even some songs for you to sing along to. Solos will be performed by members of Sun Lakes UMC Choir with Chris Evans on piano and Ron Lindvahl on trumpet.
