Michelle Behanna, Club President
My grandmother Helen Davis always said that the most important day in your life is the day you were born. So, the IronOaks Ladies Billiards Club celebrated Ruth Meharg’s 92nd birthday in September. Ruth and her husband Bill Meharg moved from Maplewood, New Jersey, to Sun Lakes in 2001. Ruth told me she had taken many a cue in 54 years of marriage but never picked up a cue stick. That all changed in the summer of 2004. For the past 13 years, Ruth has worked to hone her skills and is now an experienced pool player. I asked Ruth what she liked the best about the Ladies Billiards Club. She replied, “the camaraderie of the ladies, having fun and the competition.” Ruth has been known to say a naughty word or two in frustration when the competition gets tense. Ruth is a prime example of a person who lives her life each day. When not playing pool, Ruth is an avid reader who enjoys a nice glass of scotch and her family.
Now the news – prior to the start of the new season, the IronOaks Ladies Billiards Club amended the bylaws to expand membership to 18 members. Additionally, the season was changed to run from October through May. Our annual club dues increased to $3.00. We continue to welcome lady residents of IronOaks who currently play pool. For those who have played pool in the past and are a little rusty, we invite you to join us June through September for open play. We play every Tuesday morning from 9:30-11:00 a.m. For more information, please contact Michelle at 480-357-4231.
